Our client is a fast-growing, highly respected cosmetic and aesthetic medical group operating across London, Birmingham, and Manchester. With surging patient demand and an ambitious growth trajectory, the business has identified people management as the critical lever for its next phase of scale.

They are now looking for a Chief of Staff to sit at the heart of the organisation and own the people function commercially, keep the business running smoothly, and manage upwards to the owner with clarity and confidence.

This is not a traditional HR role, and it is not a pure operations role. It sits squarely between the two, and the job title reflects that. The Chief of Staff will be the person ultimately responsible for the performance, development, and output of every member of staff in the business. If someone isn't performing, it's on you. If a new hire isn't settling in, it's on you. If the owner is being pulled into people issues that should never have reached them, that stops with you.

You will be primarily London-based but with an active, regular presence in Birmingham and Manchester. Trains are good; excuses are not.

What You'll Be Doing

  • People Ownership: Taking full accountability for the employee lifecycle across a team of 35 including hiring and onboarding through to performance management, appraisals, and where necessary, offboarding. This includes nurses, HCAs, ODPs, patient coordinators, receptionists, and admin staff.
  • Independent Decision-Making: Hiring and firing decisions below senior level sit with you. You do not need to escalate every call as you are trusted to act, and you are expected to.
  • Commercial Recruitment: Understanding the business deeply enough to identify gaps, anticipate resourcing needs, and bring in the right people before problems arise, not after.
  • Managing Upwards: Providing the owner with a consolidated, prioritised daily or end-of-day summary of people issues, actions taken, and what requires their attention. The goal is to protect their time, not consume it.
  • Clinic Manager Liaison: Working closely with individual site managers to ensure training standards, staff output, and team morale are consistently high across all locations.
  • Culture and Standards: Building a high-performance environment where staff feel supported but are held to clear expectations.

Who You Are

You are commercially sharp, emotionally intelligent, and direct. You are the kind of person who can have a frank, unfiltered conversation with a business owner (including pushing back) and then walk into a clinic and read the room entirely differently. You do not sugarcoat things upwards, but you know how to bring people along with you.

You will need to be visible, firm, and solutions-focused. High EQ is non-negotiable because you will be managing a diverse workforce including medical professionals, and the ability to adapt your approach to different people is essential.

Essential Requirements

  • Background in or strong familiarity with the medical, clinical, or healthcare sector; you need to understand the workforce you're managing.
  • Proven experience managing people across multiple sites or departments.
  • Confidence to make independent staffing decisions without requiring sign-off at every turn.
  • High emotional intelligence combined with a commercially driven mindset.
  • Willingness to travel regularly between London, Birmingham, and Manchester.
  • Resilience and directness - you will work closely with a demanding, fast-moving leadership team and need to hold your own.

Why Apply?

This is a genuinely unique role in the medical sector. You will have real authority, direct access to ownership, and the opportunity to shape the people infrastructure of a business that is growing rapidly.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
