BSP Consulting has an immediate vacancy for an Associate Structural Engineer in Derby. The successful candidate will be employed to work in our Derby office, within our experienced structural engineering design team.

Responsibilities

  • Liaison with clients to take project briefs.
  • Preparation of quotations and distribution of work across the structural engineering team.
  • Technical reviews and communication with other teams to assist in maintaining financial consistency across the company.
  • Financial oversight and control of schemes within the structures team.
  • Coordination of financial forecasts, preparation of invoices, and monitoring the financial success of the team.
  • Determination of design standards through discussion with peers and sharing of knowledge.
  • Input into strategic resource management and communication with other teams/offices.
  • Attendance at Management Board meetings.
  • Leading interviews for staffing of the structures team and reporting back to the board.
  • Planning and organisation of tasks, people, and resources to deliver projects on time.
  • Client care and effective communication, both in written English and verbally.

Experience

  • A Chartered Structural Engineer with a minimum of 10 years’ experience within the industry.
  • Design of structures using common construction materials: steel, timber, masonry, and reinforced concrete.
  • Sound knowledge of geotechnical engineering.
  • Participation in marketing events and maintaining close relationships with clients and industry professionals.
  • Knowledge of the CDM Regulations and construction industry health and safety.
  • A track record of successful team leadership and exemplary technical knowledge.

Education

  • Strong analytical skills and qualified to Bachelor or Master degree level.
  • Possess a strong teamwork ethic and be self-motivated.
  • Assist with the management of less experienced members of the team.
  • Computer literate, fully competent in the use of Word and Excel, and experienced in the use of AutoCAD.

Location: 5 Pride Point Drive, Pride Park, Derby, DE24 8BX

Hours of work: A minimum of 37.5 hours per week, with core hours from 9.00am-4.00pm, Monday to Friday with 30 minutes lunch (flexible working hours are allowed). Hybrid/home working for 2 days of the working week is available following a probationary period.

Holidays: Allowance is in line with industry standard and is subject to relevant experience.

Salary: A competitive salary will be offered and is subject to relevant experience and qualifications.
