Purpose

BSP Consulting has an immediate vacancy in our Derby office for an Associate level Civil Engineer to lead our experienced civil engineering design team. The team undertakes pre-planning engineering reports/studies, designs adoptable highway and drainage works involving SuDS drainage features and private civil engineering works using Microdrainage and PDS industry standard software with final drawings produced in AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

The Associate Civil Engineer role will involve liaison with clients to take project briefs, preparation of quotations, distribution of work across the civil engineering team and technical reviews. In the role you will undertake communication with other teams to assist in maintaining financial consistency across the company. You will have financial oversight and control of schemes within the civils team and full control of your personal schemes. You will coordinate financial forecasts in the civils team, prepare invoices and monitor the financial success of the team. The role will include the determination of design standards through discussion with peers, sharing of knowledge with all and keeping an oversight on the design of all schemes within the team. The role will also include input into strategic resource management within the office, communication with other teams/offices to assist resourcing consistency across the company together with attendance at Management Board meetings. With regard to resourcing you will lead interviews for staffing of the civils team and report back to the board to appoint staff as required. The team works for clients throughout the East Midlands and United Kingdom, designing SuDS drainage schemes and highway works using Microdrainage and PDS industry standard software with final drawings produced in AutoCAD. The team also carry out flood risk assessments and drainage strategies. The role will also involve the planning and organisation of tasks, people and resources to deliver projects on time and in accordance with the current design guidelines.

Experience

The role would suit a Chartered Civil Engineer who has a minimum of 10 years’ experience within the industry. The successful candidate will be given a detailed induction to assist them to settle into the role and work in cooperation with the other members of the Derby office. You will be encouraged to participate in marketing events and maintain close relationships with clients and other industry professionals. Client care is of paramount importance to us as a company and the successful candidate will be an able communicator, both in written English and verbally, in person and on the telephone. Knowledge of the CDM Regulations and construction industry health and safety is essential. A track record of successful team leadership and exemplary technical knowledge should be demonstrated. The successful candidate will also be technically fluent in the use of Microdrainage and PDS design software. Proven experience with this software will be demonstrated at interview. Experience in the use of Civils 3D would also be advantageous.

Education

A strong background of English, Mathematics and a logical analytical approach to problem solving should be demonstrated. The successful candidate will be qualified as noted above, computer literate, being fully competent in the use of Word and Excel.

Location: Pride Park, Derby

Hours of work: A minimum of 37.5 hours per week, core hours are 9am until 4pm, Monday to Friday where staff are required to be at work.

Holidays: Allowance is in line with industry standard and is subject to relevant experience.
