The main purpose of the role is to act as a clinical expert, providing expert care, treatment and support for patients in the SHSCT with upper gastrointestinal, hepato-biliary and pancreatic malignancy. The post holder will also be expected to contribute to advancing the body of knowledge through education, research and audit as well as developing practice in others with regard to this patient group. They will be expected to play a key role within the multi-professional team in order to ensure a seamless, coordinated approach to care and timely onward referral to other professionals and agencies as appropriate. As a Macmillan funded professional and as part of the Trusts Cancer Services team, the post holder will foster partnership working, ensuring that the patient and carer’s voice and needs are at the heart of service delivery activity, in line with HSC NI Cancer strategy and Macmillan’s vision.

Responsibilities

  • Within a nurse provided service, undertake advanced holistic assessment to include physical, emotional, psychological, social and spiritual needs and develop an appropriate plan of care and appropriate onward referral.
  • To be responsible for organisation and management of own specialist caseload.
  • To act as a key worker for patients with Upper GI, hepato-biliary and pancreatic malignancy offering an accessible point of contact across the patient’s journey and cross services (e.g. surgery, oncology, hepatology).

Skills and Qualifications

  • Have three years post-registration experience.
  • Experience of working with upper GI, hepato-biliary or oncology patients for the last 2 years.
  • Registered Nurse on Part 1 of the live NMC Register.
