The post holder will:Co-ordinate the activity of patients within the Trauma Unit, focusing on improving quality and enhancing access.Provide effective and efficient management of these patients allowing for safe and timely operative procedure.Act as a clinical expert and professional resource to the multi-disciplinary team within the Trauma Unit.Liaise closely with members of the multi-disciplinary team to improve channels of communication, allow maximum utilisation of resources and promote continuity and co-ordination in the Trauma Unit and feeder hospitals.Work as an autonomous practitioner, providing expert advice and support to facilitate high quality, individualised care to the trauma patient in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team.

Responsibilities

  • In liaison with the Theatre Manager, Registrars, Consultants and Physicians compile theatre lists ensuring that patients are optimised for surgery and operative sessions are utilised to maximum capacity and effectiveness.
  • Where appropriate and under the direction of anesthetic, surgical and medical teams, initiate and expedite investigations on patients to improve access to theatre and report the findings to the appropriate clinician.
  • Ensure theatre scheduling adheres to clinical priority and patient outcome targets including routine procedures, those requiring Specialist Surgeons and elective patients.

Skills and Qualifications

  • 2 years\\\’ experience working as a registered nurse within the Trauma and Orthopaedic speciality.
  • Currently a Registered Nurse Level 1, Adult on the live NMC Register.
