Support the Trauma Co-ordinator in co-ordinating the activity of adult and / or adolescent trauma patients within the Fracture Unit.Contribute to the delivery of patient care by performing a range of direct clinical care activities as defined by the Trauma Co-ordinator and / or Ward Sister.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine investigations such as venipuncture, group and hold sampling and ECG recording.
- Ensure that all documentation is available for each patient including notes, x-rays, test results, consent form, name band and all other essential information.
- Ensure that theatre list order is known and prepare patients in order, including pre-operative preparation and checklist, in conjunction with the Trauma Co-ordinator.
- Escorts patients to theatre and handover to theatre staff and maintain audit trail of delays to theatre.
- Carry a telephone and respond to requests from the Trauma Co-ordinator, ward staff and theatre staff.
Skills and Qualifications
- Hold NVQ / VRQ Level 3 Award in Health & Social Care or equivalent or higher qualification in Health & Social Care, to include clinical skills of venepuncture, clinical observations and ECG performance.
- Have 6 months’ relevant experience in an acute hospital setting.
- Have the ability to communicate effectively with a range of people.
- Must be willing to undertake relevant training/ professional development as required to meet the needs of the service.
- Experience in the use of Trust Information Systems (inc PJS) and Microsoft packages.
