The Dementia Companion is required to provide & assist in the provision of high quality holistic person-centred care for patients and their families. The Dementia Companion will assist patients as appropriate, promote independence, respecting patient’s privacy and dignity & carry out other duties in support of and supervised by a Registered Nurse. The Dementia Companion must ensure that all information regarding patients is kept in strict confidence. The Dementia Companion will work as part of the nursing team providing care and support to people with dementia to promote the person’s feelings of safety, security and well-being and to reduce any feelings of distress.
Responsibilities
- Work with patients, relatives, visitors, & others with whom they come into contact in the course of their duties.
Skills and Qualifications
- 6 months relevant experience working with people with dementia.
- Have the ability to communicate effectively with a range of people.
- Knowledge of dementia and how this affects the person with dementia.
- Be willing to undertake relevant training /professional development as required to meet the service need.
