The role of this post is to support cascade screening for FH in Northern Ireland. The post holder will form part of a regional team of FH nurses implementing the cascade screening programme and providing support for investigation and management of patients and families with FH. The specialist nurse will be expected to manage families with FH in Northern Ireland. This will involve explaining the condition, the genetic inheritance and the treatment options to individuals with FH and arranging to see family members for advice and to offer genetic testing and lipid analysis. This will involve clinic appointments and home visits as appropriate.
The post holder will also act as the main interface between the lipid clinic, the regional genetics laboratory, the GP and the patient and will contribute to improved ascertainment and patient care for families with FH. A key element of the role will be liaison with the regional team of FH nurses.
Responsibilities- To approach families with FH and identify patients and relatives who may benefit from advice about this condition.
- A minimum of 3 years post registration experience.
- Experience and competence in adult venepuncture.
- Experience in genetic cascade training.
- Research experience.
- Experience in paediatric venepuncture.
- Experience in family follow up, pedigree drawing.
