The post holder is responsible for the assessment of person centred care and the development, implementation and evaluation of care for patients with both malignant and non-malignant conditions attending the BHSCT Haematology Service, for assessment, administration of Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapies (SACT) and/or supportive therapies associated with diagnosis and/or treatment. The post holder is expected to carry out all relevant forms of care without direct supervision and will be required to supervise and demonstrate procedures to qualified and/or unqualified staff.

The post holder will also provide specialist care, treatment and support for haematology patients receiving SACT and/or supportive therapies. They will be expected to contribute to advancing the body of knowledge through clinical education, research and audit as well as developing practice in others with regard to this patient group. They will play a key role within the multi-professional team to ensure a seamless, coordinated approach to care and timely onward referral to other professionals and agencies as appropriate.

Support the Ward Sister in the coordination of high quality services to patients and relatives. Under the direction of the Ward Sister, show leadership through the professional development of nursing staff, the implementation of evidence based practice and clinical audit. The post holder will work as part of the team and will contribute to the care of all patients attending the department.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Registered staff nurse on part 1 or 12 of the Nursing and Midwifery Council register.
  • Be in possession of or working towards a degree in Nursing or other Health related subject.
