The Phlebotomy Assistant is a member of the team who carries out assigned tasks which involve direct patient care and administrative tasks related to patient care. All tasks are conducted under the supervision of a registered nurse or member of medical staff and in accordance with the Trust guidelines. The Practitioner Assistant works within the competencies of the Practitioner Assistant role as defined in the HaN Competency Framework.
Responsibilities
- Deliver all aspects of patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse, or a member of medical staff.
- Communicate effectively with patients, relatives and team members ensuring confidentiality.
- Record details of insertion of cannulae in patient notes as per clinical record keeping guidelines.
- Recognise deterioration in patient’s condition and report same to appropriate medical/nursing staff.
Skills and Qualifications
- Hold NVQ/VRQ/QCF level 3 Certificate in Health/Health & Social Care or an equivalent qualification Or
- Hold NVQ/VRQ/QCF level 2 Certificate in Health/Health & Social Care or an equivalent qualification, and 1years experience of delivering direct care in a care environment Or
- Hold 4 GCSE’s at grade A-C including English and Maths (or equivalent qualifications) and 1 years’ experience of delivering direct care in a care environment.
- Must complete QCF Level 3 Certificate in Healthcare Support if required.
- Must undertake the Trust two week Induction Programme prior to work placement.
