Set up and deliver a highly specialist Orthoptic service for children with special educational needs (SEN) to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team performing visual assessments in Special Schools throughout the Belfast Trust.

Provide support and advice for staff in the Regional Integrated Support for Education (RISE) team within the Belfast Trust.

Promote and develop a collaborative approach in the management of children in Special Schools, with a strong emphasis on inter-agency working, particularly with Education.

Be responsible for the management, appropriate follow-up, and onward referral of children within special schools.

Be involved in the education of other health and educational professionals and undergraduates, acting as a source of expertise on the management of ocular disorders in children to carers and other healthcare and educational professionals.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide a high level of evidence-based and child-centred clinical expertise in the assessment, diagnosis, and management of children with special educational needs and disabilities.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • BSc (Hons) in Orthoptics / Diploma of British Orthoptic Council.
  • HCPC registration.
  • Undertaken practice-based training in advanced clinical skills.
