The Simulator Technician will be part of a small, on-base team at RAF Leeming, performing setup activities and essential maintenance to maximise the availability of Hawk training devices, supporting Joint Squadron aircrew training.
Core Activities
- Liaise with the QFI’s regarding device availability, scheduled maintenance and unscheduled fault resolution.
- Prepare the pilot training devices for customer use and assist with mission specific preparations on a daily basis.
- Undertake scheduled and unscheduled maintenance to maximise device availability, recording all activities.
- Perform maintenance safely in accordance with documented procedures.
- Diagnose faults and perform remedial maintenance (remove and replace unserviceable parts) efficiently.
- Raise fault reports and queries, identifying items requiring repair or replacement.
- Record spares consumption for each training device.
- Follow spares replenishment and procurement processes.
- Follow tool control processes as per Part 145 documentation.
- Leverage experience from the L3 Field Service Rep and apply that learning to support devices when FSR returns to industry.
Key Accountabilities
- Follow safe working and risk assessment procedures.
- Understand hazards and mitigation.
- Maintain personal safety and safety training currency.
- Adhere to CONOPS documentation and Maintenance Safety Management Plan.
- Ensure devices are safe to use before handing them over for customer use.
- Report all accidents, incidents and near-miss events per safety management procedures.
- Assist in controlling visiting contractors.
Requirements
- Background in Avionic simulation systems or an experienced IT background; device-specific training provided.
- Alternatively, experience as a military aviation technician from an engineering discipline, preferably Avionics, Electrical or IT.
- Engineering Apprenticeship (NVQ level 3) or City & Guilds 2675/2661 in Aeronautical Engineering and Maintenance or equivalent.
- Personal compliance with risk assessments, SHE policies and procedures.
- Completion of Human Factors, E’PW Awareness, ITAR Awareness standard courses.
- IT literate.
