The Mechanical Team Lead will be responsible for aircraft mechanical production and supervision within the base and MRO environment, including aircraft scheduled maintenance and component maintenance within workshops. They are responsible for ensuring that all maintenance activities are undertaken in accordance with regulatory approval requirements and the issued Statement of Work/Condition of Supply to assure the output of airworthy aircraft and components. They will report to the Base Maintenance Manager and manage the programme at a tactical level, ensuring that issues adversely affecting lead times are anticipated and reported. The role will involve supervision of a team of mechanical supervisors and technicians; the candidate will be able to evaluate and prioritise tasks to ensure production schedules are achieved.

Core Duties

  • Performance indicators – Ensure effective management of Part 145 activities by setting delivery targets, monitoring progress and developing performance improvement programmes. Prioritise activities within and across teams to maximise efficiency.
  • Completion of activities – Ensure all Part 145 activities are documented and airworthiness records maintained on relevant systems. Ensure all activities are performed by suitably qualified, experienced and authorised personnel. Integrate Part 145 activity within the business, engaging key stakeholders at all stages. Provide support and guidance to the team.
  • Procedure / standards – Manage Part 145 team compliance with the Part 145 Exposition, associated procedures and standards, and other Company procedures. Identify, propose and implement changes as required, ensuring compliance.
  • Safety Management System – Promote Human Factors, Error Management, Risk Management and Safety Assurance within the Part 145 team, together with proactive analysis, mitigation and management of hazards.
  • Management System Assurance – Ensure Part 145 team activities are compliant with AM&S Governance and Assurance framework. Support process confirmations and independent assurance audits, integrate findings across teams, manage audit responses and implement improvements.
  • Statutory / Regulatory & Legislative requirements – Demonstrate good understanding and application of the Continuing Airworthiness Regulatory framework, implementing regulatory‑driven changes and ensuring compliance with ITAR, EaPW, ISO, etc.
  • Contractual Requirements – Ensure compliance with contractual requirements, support contract reviews and implement changes into Part 145 activities.

Deliverables

  • Maintain airworthiness by ensuring all contracted maintenance is carried out per regulatory requirements within the Maintenance Organisation Exposition; certify component serviceability and issue appropriate documentation.
  • Hold Component Certification Privileges as authorised by the On & Off a/c Maintenance Manager.
  • Ensure robust adherence to Service Safety Hazard controls to prevent incorrectly/incompletely maintained components.
  • Meet agreed delivery targets through supervision, reporting progress to senior management and customers.
  • Apply relevant analytical skills for tactical evaluation and resolution of operational problems, utilising competent personnel and approved data.
  • Ensure workshop scheduling adherence and report impacts on the wider programme.
  • Manage Component Maintenance Capability List for workshops according to PROQ14992.
  • Identify and manage dependencies with stakeholders to enable successful component maintenance.
  • Manage shift and resource plans to achieve delivery targets while ensuring staff competence and coverage of support staff.

Experience

  • Experienced and competent people manager and leader at this level.
  • Broad and in‑depth product knowledge, expert competence within own technical area and understanding of interfacing areas.
  • Thorough knowledge of Maintenance activities under the MRP Part 145 framework, with ability to balance safety/compliance and delivery output.
  • Hawk T2/Mk167 type trained or ability to obtain qualification.

Qualifications

  • Ideally Hawk T2/Mk167 type trained.
  • 5 years practical experience in aviation safety standards and safe operating practices.
  • 2 years supervisory experience in aircraft maintenance, exercising certifying privileges.
  • Demonstrated breadth of experience, currency and recency via a Log Book capturing skills, knowledge and authorities.
  • Ideally 6 months experience on type in the last two years.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Expositions and Functionally Mandated procedures.
  • Management training.
  • IT literate.
