We have an exciting permanent opportunity to join our BSI team. As a Senior Standards Manager, you will be leading the BSI standards development programme on medical devices, PPE and food. The job holder will work closely with colleagues in sector, policy and marketing teams, as well as colleagues across the BSI Group, to maximize the potential of these portfolios of standards.
The job holder will lead a team of Standards Development Managers responsible for working with committees to ensure that the standards programmes meet an identified market need and are used by their intended audience.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities- Leading a programme of standards and related activities to help businesses in the medical devices, PPE and food industries, ensuring that the committee activities are in alignment with the broader BSI and sector strategy.
- Managing a team of Standards Development Managers and Lead Standards Development Managers, developing and empowering the team to take ownership for the revenue performance and impact of their committees.
- Maintaining and managing relationships with a network of key stakeholders and nominating bodies, attending industry events as necessary to project a positive external image of BSI.
- Working with BSIβs policy team, ensuring that BSI takes leadership roles and influences the future development of standards in international and European standards bodies.
- Working with colleagues from the sector team, developing a standards publishing plan, ensuring that business cases and new work item proposals for standards are developed and delivered with a clearly identified market need, an achievable delivery plan and a realistic revenue forecast.
- Working with Marketing team, develop the approach to marketing for major standards, providing support and advice for Standards Development Managers in relation to preparation of marketing briefs and go-to-market plans as required to maximize impact of the standards portfolio.
- Work with Standards Development Managers to set priorities for time allocation to meet business needs and ensure a good level of service is maintained across all committees, and provide leadership for the team in relation to improving the committee experience and diversity of committee members.
- Managing the teamβs performance, taking action as required to address issues relating to performance against key performance indicators and committee satisfaction.
- Experience and/or understanding of standards creation and development.
- Understanding of relevant industry sector issues.
- Strong matrix management and interpersonal skills, able to work across the business at a senior level.
- Commercial aptitude and good understanding of financial information with ability to develop multi-year business cases and revenue forecasts.
- Leadership of the team β direction, motivation, coaching and employee development.
- Familiarity with marketing concepts and able to contribute to go-to-market planning and marketing strategy.
- Excellent planning and organizational skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including persuasion, negotiation and conflict management.
- Confidence in presenting to large audiences.
