The Role
As Course Leader for Live Sound and Events Management, you will play a pivotal role in designing, delivering, and leading our course curriculum. You will be responsible for ensuring that students receive high-quality teaching and practical learning experiences that prepare them for successful careers in the live sound, events, and entertainment industries. Key Responsibilities
- The Course Leader for BA (Hons) Live Sound & Event Management is responsible for coordinating the academic student journey across the programme at the Manchester campus, ensuring that students experience a coherent, well‑managed course that supports their progression and success.
- Working closely with Module Leaders, the Quality Lead, and student support services, the postholder holds the academic point of contact for students and maintains the overall coherence and health of the course at this campus.
- The role requires both disciplinary expertise in live sound engineering and/or event management and a commitment to inclusive, industry‑aligned higher education practice.
- The postholder is expected to contribute actively to course delivery and to ensure that the BA (Hons) Live Sound & Event Management continues to reflect the creative, technical, and professional realities of the sectors it serves.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential Experience:
- Relevant degree or professional qualification in Live Sound, Events Management, Music Technology, or a related field.
- A postgraduate degree in live sound, audio technology, event management, music production, or a closely related discipline; or substantial professional experience at a senior level in the live sound or events industries that is demonstrably equivalent to postgraduate study.
- A higher education teaching qualification or professional recognition (e.g. PGCert HE, FHEA or equivalent), or a commitment to achieving this within an agreed timeframe supported by the institution.
- Experience of teaching, lecturing, training, or mentoring in a higher education, further education, or professional development context.
- Demonstrable professional expertise in live sound engineering and/or event management, with a record of relevant industry practice at professional level.
- Experience of engagement with a wide range of stakeholders, including students, colleagues, industry partners, and community representatives.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong and productive working relationships with students, academic colleagues, and industry partners.
- Strong organisational and self‑management skills, with the ability to manage concurrent academic responsibilities across a busy and varied calendar.
- Commitment to inclusive, equity‑informed teaching practice and to creating a learning environment that supports students from diverse backgrounds.
- Proficiency in data analysis and the technology tools used for student record management, timetabling, and reporting.
- Commitment to excellence in higher education and to the ongoing development of professional practice.
- Commitment to continuing professional development and to maintaining professional standards through reflective practice, sector engagement, and CPD activity.
