The predicted salary is between 20 - 25 Β£ per hour.

Location: Community-based delivery across Belfast, Lisburn and surrounding areas as required.

Rate of Pay: Competitive hourly rate, agreed in advance of delivery.

Hours: Variable. There are no guaranteed hours of work. Delivery opportunities will be offered based on programme demand, subject specialism, geographical location and tutor availability.

Job Background: Bryson Pathways is establishing a bank of freelance Community Essential Skills Tutors to support the delivery of accredited Essential Skills programmes in Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Skills within communities across Northern Ireland. Working as part of our Community Services, tutors will plan, deliver and assess engaging learning that supports adults to build confidence, gain recognised qualifications and develop the skills they need to progress into further learning, employment and everyday life. Tutors will ensure all delivery meets Department for Economy and Awarding Organisation requirements while creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment that enables learners to achieve their full potential.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging Essential Skills programmes in Literacy, Numeracy and/or Digital Skills within community settings.
  • Plan and deliver high‑quality learning sessions that meet Awarding Organisation and Department for Economy requirements.
  • Carry out initial assessments to identify learner ability and support needs.
  • Develop learning plans and prepare appropriate teaching resources.
  • Support learners to prepare for and achieve accredited Essential Skills qualifications.
  • Ensure all delivery complies with Awarding Organisation and Department for Economy standards.
  • Maintain accurate learner records, attendance registers, assessment evidence and required documentation.
  • Work closely with Bryson Community staff to support learner recruitment, engagement and retention.
  • Develop positive relationships with community organisations and host venues.

Qualifications:

  • GCSE Grade C/Level 2 (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics (or Essential Skills Level 2 equivalents).
  • Hold a recognised teaching qualification accepted by the Department for Economy for the delivery of Essential Skills (e.g. Certificate in Teaching, PGCE, PGCE (FE), B.Ed., PGCFHE or PGDFHE).
  • Hold a degree (or recognised equivalent) in the relevant subject specialism in accordance with Department for Economy Essential Skills requirements: Literacy – English comprises a minimum of 50 % of the degree; Numeracy – Mathematics comprises a minimum of 50 % of the degree; Digital Skills – ICT/Computing comprises a minimum of 50 % of the degree.
  • Experience teaching adults within community or training settings.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (reasonable adjustments will be considered where appropriate).
  • Experience delivering within community settings.
  • Experience delivering more than one Essential Skills subject.
