The Governors and Headteacher are seeking to appoint a motivated, resilient, enthusiastic and inspiring lead primary teacher for the Bryn Hafod Special Resource Base for pupils with severe and complex needs. Bryn Hafod Primary School is part of the Rainbow Federation. It is a welcoming and inclusive school, situated in the Llanrumney area of Cardiff.
Bryn Hafod’s SRB classes support children with severe and complex needs. The SRB will increase its provision in September 2026 providing an extra 6 places for pupils, with plans to expand to a 50 place SRB in September 2028. The successful postholder will lead the SRB and be instrumental in establishing the environments, staffing, provision and first cohort of pupils. We want our SRB provision to be at the centre of school life in Bryn Hafod and believe this to be an exciting opportunity to shape and design outstanding provision with integration and inclusion at the forefront.
The children will receive a specially designed curriculum which places the child at the centre of the learning and ensures they are valued, supported and nurtured to achieve the best possible outcomes. The post would suit a teacher with experience of working with pupils with additional learning needs in either a mainstream primary or specialist setting. A commitment to play/sensory based and experiential learning both indoors and outdoors is essential. Experience of early childhood development is desirable.
The role requires someone with empathy, patience and who understands the importance of effective communication and engagement with families. The successful candidate will need to be a team player and collaborate effectively with the headteacher, mainstream ALNCo and specialist teams to build strong relationships with these partners to support children. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with the right knowledge and experience to lead an SRB within an inclusive and welcoming school.
This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check. Under the Education (Wales) Act 2014, all School Learning Support Workers must be registered with the Education Workforce Council (EWC). This vacancy is suitable for post share.
Closing date: Monday 23rd February 2026 at 12 noon. Shortlisting: Thursday 26th February 2026. Lesson observations: 2nd and 3rd March 2026. Following a successful observation, candidates will be invited to attend an interview on 4th March 2026.
