The Marketing & Business Development Manager is a member of the firmwide marketing and business development group and is responsible for the full range of business development activities for the Financial Services Disputes & Investigations practice. This position will also collaborate with sector support teams and will contribute to other firmwide marketing and business development initiatives as needed. This role is global in scope, and it is imperative that the Business Development Manager possesses the capability to connect contingents of resources and expertise globally to develop cohesive and effective business development initiatives.
The Marketing & Business Development Manager works closely with practice group leaders and sector team leaders to create opportunities to grow the practice group through research-driven growth initiatives. The Marketing and Business Development Manager works closely with attorneys to identify new opportunities from clients and potential clients, develop client communications, implement practice-specific branding and PR, draft and provide guidance on client proposals and presentations, and plan events that support practice and regional goals. This position requires close communication and collaboration with team members across offices, practices and sectors.
Responsibilities- Develops effective marketing ideas, strategies and opportunities to raise the profile of the Financial Services Disputes & Investigations Practice Group across the firm.
- Maintains a strong, current knowledge of the global financial services industry as well as a general understanding of the competitive landscape and challenges faced by corporate entities.
- Proactively presents ideas for business development to practice leaders and assists in the execution of approved plans.
- Supports group and individual lawyers’ business development efforts.
- Organizes and works closely with other professionals and staff to present effective live and online events, such as continuing education seminars, webinars, workshops or social receptions for clients.
- Works closely with lawyers, marketing staff and firmwide personnel to prepare Request for Proposal (RFP) responses, write proposals, and create presentations for new business.
- Leads the firm’s annual flagship “Emerging Themes” campaign for FSDI group.
- Coaches lawyers as they prepare for marketing- and business development-related presentations.
- Serves as the primary contact for managing and executing lateral integration plans for the practice group, ensuring seamless coordination and alignment across all departments.
- Works with the Creative Services Team on the creation of and maintenance of practice marketing materials, including maps and infographics.
- Working with our external consultant and other BCLP stakeholders, plays a role in managing the group’s participation in relevant legal directories (e.g., Chambers, Legal 500).
- Collaborates with the Research Intelligence Team and other firm resources to facilitate competitive intelligence and marketing research reports.
- Produces client alerts, practice newsletters and other practice communications.
- Develops mailing lists for external client communications.
- Works closely with the practice group leaders in planning and budgeting marketing initiatives.
- Implements Firmwide initiatives as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Administration or a related field.
- Minimum five (5) years marketing experience in a professional services environment or five (5) years’ experience handling public relations.
- Ability to deal professionally with both internal and external clients on all levels.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely verbally and in writing with both internal and external clients and to diplomatically pushback or question those in authority for greater clarity or more information, if needed.
- Proven ability to concentrate on the details of executing projects once the big picture has been identified by upper management.
- Proven budgeting, project management, organizational, and planning skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work well in an active environment with flexibility and adaptability to changing work flow and work assignments.
- Ability to work flexible schedule to accommodate projects as needed.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Dynamics, and competence working in a web environment.
- Proven ability to think creatively, using good judgment and decision-making capabilities.
