Contract: Permanent, Full-Time

We are supporting a large London local authority with the recruitment of a Fire Safety Surveyor to join their Housing Services & Building Safety team. This is a key technical role supporting compliance with fire safety legislation across a diverse residential and non-residential property portfolio.

This position would suit an experienced fire safety professional with strong surveying, inspection, and project delivery experience within social housing or complex built environments.

The Role

As Fire Safety Surveyor, you will play a central role in ensuring compliance with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order, the Fire Safety Act, and associated building safety legislation. You will support the delivery of fire risk assessment actions, oversee fire safety improvement works, and provide technical advice across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver fire safety inspections and compartmentation surveys arising from Fire Risk Assessments
  • Produce specifications and schedules of works to address identified fire safety risks
  • Manage and monitor fire safety remedial works, ensuring quality, compliance, and timely close-out
  • Provide technical input into fire strategies for new and existing buildings
  • Review technical drawings and specifications to ensure compliance with Building Regulations and British Standards
  • Oversee contractor performance, including quality assurance and sign-off of works
  • Liaise with internal teams, contractors, residents, and enforcement bodies
  • Support KPI reporting and audit activity across the fire safety programme
  • Respond to resident enquiries and fire safety-related complaints professionally and effectively

About You

You will be an experienced fire safety or building professional with strong technical knowledge and the confidence to operate in a high-risk, resident-focused environment.

Essential:

  • NEBOSH Fire Safety Management Certificate (or equivalent fire safety qualification)
  • Degree in Building Surveying or a related construction / engineering discipline
  • Proven experience in a similar fire safety or building safety role
  • Strong knowledge of fire safety legislation and residential building compliance
  • Experience managing fire safety projects from inspection through to completion
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable:

  • Membership of a professional body (IFE, RICS, CIOB, CABE, IFSM or similar)
  • Fire door inspection and/or passive fire stopping certification
  • Experience working within a local authority or social housing environment
  • Knowledge of Section 20 consultation processes

This is a full-time permanent role, working 37.5 hours Monday to Friday, and is available to start as soon as possible upon appointment. The client has not notified us of any specific Health & Safety Risks. The notice period is 1 week during probation, rising to 1 month thereafter and is paid on a monthly, salaried basis. Salary offered will be dependent on experience. You will be entitled to 30 days leave + 8 bank holidays.
