Bryan & Armstrong are delighted to be supporting a leading, internationally recognised multidisciplinary design practice in the appointment of a CDM Principal Designer to join their expanding team. This organisation delivers award-winning architecture, engineering and design solutions across sectors including workplace, education, healthcare, retail, residential, science & technology, transport and major infrastructure. With a strong design-led culture and a genuine commitment to safety, sustainability and technical excellence, they integrate CDM and health & safety risk management seamlessly into the design process.

Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of complex projects, they are now seeking an experienced CDM Principal Designer to play a key role in supporting project teams and clients across the full lifecycle of design and delivery. This is an excellent opportunity for a confident and collaborative CDM professional who enjoys influencing design from concept stage onwards and working within a highly respected architectural environment.

The Role

You will act as Principal Designer across a diverse portfolio of projects, working closely with architects, engineers, clients and contractors to embed effective design risk management at the earliest stages. You will provide clear, pragmatic advice to project teams, ensuring regulatory compliance while supporting innovative and high-quality design outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as Principal Designer in accordance with CDM Regulations 2015.
  • Lead and coordinate design risk management processes across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Facilitate and chair design risk workshops and reviews.
  • Prepare and review Pre-Construction Information (PCI).
  • Advise on Construction Phase Plans and health & safety documentation.
  • Maintain and monitor design risk registers.
  • Undertake site visits and inspections where required.
  • Provide strategic CDM advice to clients and internal project leads.
  • Support the development of best practice CDM processes across the business.

Requirements

  • NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equivalent (minimum).
  • Strong working knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015.
  • Proven experience delivering Principal Designer services within design or consultancy environments.
  • Experience working on complex, multi-stakeholder projects.
  • Membership of the APS (desirable).
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Full UK driving licence (as occasional travel may be required).
