We are supporting a client organisation delivering one of the UK’s largest and most complex infrastructure programmes in the appointment of an experienced Health & Safety Manager on a contract basis.
This role is operationally focused, with a strong site presence required to support live major civils works, while also allowing flexibility through a hybrid working arrangement.
The position is suited to candidates with genuine major civils experience. Consultancy or light construction backgrounds will not be suitable.
The Role
You will operate as a site-embedded Health & Safety Manager, working closely with construction managers, engineers and subcontractors to ensure works are delivered safely, compliantly and in line with Tier 1 standards.
The role balances hands-on site leadership with reporting, assurance and coordination activities completed remotely.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide Health & Safety leadership across major civils works
- Maintain strong visibility on site (minimum 3 days per week)
- Embed H&S standards into site and subcontractor activities
- Conduct site inspections, audits and behavioural safety tours
- Review and challenge RAMS, temporary works and high-risk activities
- Support incident and near-miss investigations and learning reviews
- Coach site leadership teams to improve H&S performance
- Act as the key H&S interface between site teams and the wider function
Essential Requirements
- NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent)
- Major civils experience OR extensive experience with a Tier 1 civils contractor in a project or regional H&S role
- Clear evidence of team leadership capability
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle

- Rate: £500 – £600 per day (Inside IR35)
