The Head of Health & Safety role in a well-established and growing organisation operating across civil engineering, plant hire, commercial, industrial and residential construction sectors. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, this role offers the opportunity to take full ownership of the Health & Safety function, driving both strategic direction and practical delivery across a multi-site operation.

The business operates across approximately 16 sites with a workforce of 300+ employees, and this position will play a key role in embedding a proactive, positive safety culture across all activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of Health & Safety strategy, policies and management systems
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety and environmental legislation, including CDM Regulations
  • Provide leadership and guidance to operational teams across multiple construction and infrastructure projects
  • Oversee the preparation and review of key documentation, including Construction Phase Plans, RAMS, risk assessments and inspection reports
  • Lead investigations into incidents, accidents and near misses, ensuring effective root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions
  • Manage and maintain external accreditations and certifications
  • Develop and deliver training programmes, ensuring workforce competency and ongoing engagement
  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients, regulators and external auditors
  • Monitor performance through audits, inspections, KPIs and reporting, driving continuous improvement
  • Support pre-construction and tender processes, advising on risk, methodology and compliance requirements
  • Promote a positive safety culture through effective communication, leadership and engagement at all levels
Candidate Requirements
  • Chartered Member of IOSH (CMIOSH), or working towards
  • Strong background within civil engineering, construction or infrastructure environments
  • Proven experience operating at Senior H&S Manager or Head of level
  • Good working knowledge of CDM Regulations
  • Experience managing H&S across multiple sites and complex operations
  • Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to influence at all levels of an organisation

This role will require travel across multiple sites in Surrey, Sussex, Berkshire and Hampshire. Candidates should be comfortable operating in both office and site-based environments.

This is a full-time permanent role, Monday to Friday, and is available to start as soon as possible upon appointment. The client has not notified us of any specific Health & Safety Risks. The notice period is 1 week during probation, rising to 1 month thereafter and is paid on a monthly, salaried basis. Salary offered (£85k-£110k) will be dependent on experience. You will be entitled to a company car / car allowance + 25 days holiday plus bank holidays + pension + up to 10% bonus.
