An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Head of Health & Safety to join a well-established and growing business operating across civil engineering, plant hire, commercial, industrial, and residential sectors. Based in Cheam, the company employs over 300 people across 16 sites throughout Surrey, Sussex, Berkshire, and Hampshire. This role is ideal for a locally based professional who is comfortable travelling between sites.
This is a senior leadership position, combining strategic oversight with hands-on operational involvement. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will lead the development and implementation of Health & Safety policies while embedding a proactive, positive safety culture across all business activities. You will initially manage one direct report and work closely with senior leaders, project teams, and site personnel to ensure consistent standards across all locations.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop, implement, and continuously improve Health & Safety policies and systems
- Maintain external accreditations and ensure compliance with regulations
- Oversee key documentation including risk assessments and method statements
- Provide expert advice during pre-construction and tender stages
- Lead incident investigations and drive corrective actions
- Manage training frameworks and promote workforce engagement
- Act as the main point of contact for regulators, clients, and auditors
- Conduct audits, monitor KPIs, and support continuous improvement initiatives
- Chartered Member of IOSH (CMIOSH)
- Strong knowledge of CDM 2015 regulations
- Proven leadership experience in construction or civil engineering
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
