What's the role?

As a Bid Engineer, you will play a crucial role in driving the commercial success of the organisation by preparing and managing tenders, bids, and cost analysis to maximise profitability. This role requires strong attention to detail, technical expertise, strategic thinking and a commitment to compliance, ensuring all bids align with company policies, procedures, and industry standards. You will work closely with the Sales and Procurement teams to develop innovative and commercially viable solutions that align with client needs and business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To undertake the effective development and preparation of commercial and technical offers across the range of switchgear products from Baldwin & Francis, Igranic and Allenwest, that enhances the prospect of securing orders for the business.
  • To effectively assess and validate incoming enquiries to identify our ability to offer and strategies to enhance the success of such offers.
  • To liaise with Key Account Managers and Sales Managers to ensure an understanding of timescales and tactics in the preparation of Offers.
  • To liaise with Engineering and Production departments to ensure technical aspects of customers’ requirements are met in the most cost-effective manner.
  • Reviewing tender Terms and Conditions and arriving at appropriate clarifications and exceptions as necessary, in consultation with legal/risk management.
  • To control the quality and accuracy of the bid and ensuring that the optimal solution is submitted to the customer.
  • To develop, negotiate and agree/confirm contract specifications with a variety of external groups, including contractors, end-users and OEM companies.

  • Degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering.
  • Technical background and experience in MV and LV Electrical Switchgear.
  • A strong understanding of the components and features associated with electrical switchgear and particularly an awareness of product limitations.
  • Keen to learn and develop.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Pro‑active attitude and problem resolution.
