About the Role
Reporting to the BRUSH Power Solutions (BPS) Senior SHE Manager, the SHE Manager will be responsible for promoting and upholding a positive health and safety culture throughout the Southern region, focusing on civils construction and M&E disciplines at site. The role will also be responsible for keeping employees, contractors and visitors to site safe, preventing harm and ill health and helping to achieve SHE KPI targets. This role will develop and maintain SHE standards within all BPS projects both as Principal Contractor and contractor status in accordance with current health and safety legislation, BPS policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the BPS site operational team ensuring compliance in all activities.
- Provide specialist advice for all matters concerning the statutory requirements concerning SHE factors to the site operational team, managers, employees and subcontractors.
- Implement and maintain procedures to meet the requirements of ISO14001 and ISO45001 and ensure compliance with the standards across BPS and the BRUSH Group.
- Support with capturing SHE Statistics and data reporting.
- Collect data and populate KPI’s, ensure targets are met and areas for concern are immediately escalated.
- Work alongside the quality team to ensure compliance with quality systems, including issuing and tracking corrective action requests.
- Progress and close actions arising from internal or external SHE audits in a timely manner.
- Ensure CDM 2015 compliance is maintained throughout the term of the project.
- Lead by example and promote a positive SHE culture, driving continuous improvement within the business.
- Develop and implement SHE policies and procedures to support the project.
- Support HR to ensure legal compliance with health surveillance requirements, working with the Occupational Health provider to ensure timely completion of medical assessments.
- Assist managers and supervisors in the development and maintenance of risk assessments, ensuring these remain up to date, with an aim to eliminate and reducing risk to as low as is reasonably practicable.
- Review RAMS from BPS and subcontractors and suggest changes as required.
- Support the Project Teams on the writing and reviewing of the project CDM documentation.
- Assess training requirements throughout the business and deliver SHE training to employees, including toolbox talks.
- Lead health and safety initiatives, including chairing meetings.
- Review all submitted BPS Safety Improvement Opportunities (SIO) and look for trends developing subsequent control measures.
- Assist with accident and incident investigations, provide reports and identify root causes.
- Implementing action plans to prevent re-occurrence and share lessons learnt across the wider group.
- Advise on a range of specialist areas, including fire regulations, hazardous substances, work at height, noise, HAV and occupational diseases etc.
- Monitor and control PPE and ensure items issued comply with the required safety standards and are being used correctly.
- Ensure regulatory requirements are met e.g. COSHH, RIDDOR etc.
- Report project statistics monthly to allow Client and BPS monthly KPI reports to be completed.
- Ensure all data protection activities of personal and special category data; pertaining to current employees, customers and all other external stakeholders, are completed in line with the BPS data protection policy.
- Accountable for the adequate data protection activities and awareness levels within Iver phase-2 in line with the BPS data protection policy.

- Tech IOSH, or working towards.
- Relevant experience in a sub-station, HV/LV environment - Essential.
- NEBOSH General / Construction certificate - Essential.
- NEBOSH Diploma - Desirable.
- Lead Auditor - Desirable.
- NEBOSH / ISEP Environmental Qualification - Desirable.
- Accident and Investigation training - Desirable.
- Permit to Work training - Desirable.
- Temporary works training - Desirable.
- SSEN CAT 1 / 3 Authorisations - Desirable.
Knowledge and Experience:
- Experience with BS EN ISO 9001, ISO14001 and ISO45001.
- Experience performing SHE audits and detailed site inspections.
- Management of safety observations and the subsequent assigning and further close out of any assigned actions.
- Substation and HV / LV experience as principal contractor or main contractor.
- Excellent understanding of current SHE laws and legislation.
- Previous experience of working with a SHE management system.
- Excellent verbal & written communication. Must be competent with the English language.
- A good understanding of fundamental Civil, Mechanical and Electrical principles.
- Strong IT skills, proficient in all Microsoft Office programs.
- Experience in accident / incident investigation including root cause analysis and report writing.
- Proficient in compiling and delivering SHE reports and presentations.
- Competent at developing task specific RAMS and POWRA with the operational teams at site for the project scope.
