What’s the role?
The Senior HR Advisor provides high‑quality, proactive HR advice and support to managers and employees across the organisation. Working alongside the Business leadership team and acting as a trusted advisor, the role focuses on complex employee relations casework, policy implementation, and supporting organisational change, while ensuring compliance with employment legislation and best HR practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a first point of contact for the Business unit leadership team, managers on HR policies, procedures, and people-related queries
- Build strong working relationships with stakeholders across the business
- Lead on complex employee relations cases including disciplinary, grievance, absence management, performance, and capability issues
- Manage recruitment for the Business unit with coaching managers, drafting job descriptions and conducting interviews
- Interpret and apply employment legislation and internal policies accurately
- Support audits and ensure HR practices meet legal and regulatory requirements
- Lead the administration, training and completion of the performance management (PDR) process
- Conduct talent reviews (up to job level 4) with support from the HRD
- Line manage the HR Administrator/Advisor, setting objectives, monitoring performance, and supporting professional development to ensure an efficient and customer‑focused HR service
What are we looking for
- CIPD Level 5 essential
- CIPD Level 7 desirable or working towards
- Significant experience in an HR advisory or generalist role
- Experience of HR software and systems (e.g., Sage HR) and track record of maintaining accurate data
- Previously worked within a unionised environment
- Strong employee relations expertise with the ability to manage complex cases independently
- High level of professionalism, integrity and attention to detail
- Approachable and trustworthy
