The Project Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for the financial integrity, profitability, and risk management of two construction contracts within the South & West region of the Power Solutions business. Acting as a key commercial interface between clients, project teams, and subcontractors, the PQS ensures projects are commercially viable and align with strategic business goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contractual Support: Production of Contract Summaries including key contract clauses, payment mechanisms and timescales, variation/claim notification requirements, programme submission requirements and revision timescales, identification of Liquidated Damages clauses, and applicable rate review calculations and timescales.
  • Variations & Claims: Management of Variations & Claims to ensure adherence to current trading policy; notifications to the Client as per contract requirements; assist PMs in evaluating Variations & Claims prior to submission; assist PMs with follow-up negotiations and formalised agreement of submitted Variations & Claims.
  • Project Completion Requirements: Ensure substantial and final completion certificates are issued in accordance with the contract; monitor Defects Liability Periods.
  • Programming Support: Monitor monthly programme updates to assess Delays/Acceleration; ensure contract programme submission requirements are adhered to; recalculation of Milestone schedule submission dates.
  • Working Capital Management: Applications/Invoicing – ongoing communication with PMs to ensure applications and invoicing are carried out in accordance with contractual formats, submission intervals and payment terms; ensure PMs provide regular updates to Milestone Payment dates; submit applications to the Client's Representative and confirm approval to invoice; communicate with the Client's Representative to ensure approval of invoice and payment by the due date.
  • Cashflow Forecasting Cost Control: Subcontractors – supervision of the setup process for new Subcontractors; formalising Subcontract Terms and Conditions; authorisation of prices/rates in Subcontract Orders; authorisation of Subcontract payments.
  • Purchase Agreements: Review of Purchase Agreement Terms and Conditions; provide feedback to Commercial Manager.
  • Financial Reporting: Reconciliations – provide support to Commercial Manager during monthly reconciliation reports; review of completed reconciliation sheets prior to reconciliation meetings.
  • Client Liaison: Commercial representation at progress or other commercially oriented meetings.

  • Hold a degree/HND/Diploma in Quantity Surveying or Construction Management.
  • Extensive knowledge in both pre- and post-contract QS work.
  • Be fully conversant with the use of the standard method of measurement.
  • Demonstrable ability to deliver projects to tight timescales.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to lead from the front.
  • Self-motivation; working effectively at both a strategic and an operational level.
  • Well organised with a methodical approach and the ability to prioritise.
  • Clean driving licence.
