About The Role
Job Summary:
We are currently seeking a contracts manager to support our business within Scotland. This position will be based at the offices of our Infrastructure and Power Solutions businesses based in Glasgow. Flexible working of up to two days from home will be considered. Equally the successful candidate may be required to travel to other BRUSH locations including Loughborough, Leicestershire from time to time.
We require, first and foremost, a commercial contracts manager who has ideally had experience within construction and energy environments and is familiar with NEC, JCT and other model terms and conditions for those industries. The successful candidate will lead on all local contract reviews and support our power and infrastructure solutions businesses with other legal and compliance activities.
This position sits within the Group Legal & Compliance function providing general and project support to the Group Legal Director who is based in the St Neots, Cambs office, as well assisting our Group Compliance Manager with embedding compliance initiatives within the business.
Key Responsibilities:
This is an excellent opportunity for either a commercial contracts manager or a qualified in-house lawyer who wants to embrace a challenging role at an interesting time for our business. Success in this role will lead to wider opportunities within the business allowing the individual to grow with and influence the business.
- Contract review. The review, analysis and negotiation of business contracts with customers, suppliers and other third parties. Our customers and suppliers are part of the energy and construction industries and we supply both power products and undertake design and construction services to this group.
- Compliance Integration. The role will be expected to collaborate with the Group Compliance Manager and be accountable for the continued integration of Group compliance policies within the Solutions businesses.
- The role extends to supporting the balance of the Solutions businesses with generic legal issues from disputes and litigation through to intellectual property and insurance matters.
- In addition to working in a collaborative and collegiate fashion across the business, with key stakeholders such as finance, sales, tendering and project management the role will form part of the Brush Group L&C Department and report into the Group Legal Director. They will be involved in department projects and discussions of an L&C nature.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience and Skills:
Qualifications
- Either (i) A UK qualified solicitor having at least 5 years PQE who has worked within the construction and/or energy industry – preferably in an in-house role; or
- (ii) A contracts manager who has rounded legal skills and experience and again, has a construction and/or energy background.
Skills
- The breadth of this new role demands a proactive person with a ‘can do’ attitude who is resilient and uses their initiative and common sense. They will need to be good at influencing and relationship building and a ‘detail’ person.
Knowledge
- In order to be successful in this position you will require a good technical knowledge of contract law as well as be commercially aware.
- Any additional legal or compliance experience would be beneficial in this role.
Experience
- Relevant experience of working in a commercial/construction department in private practice or in-house. The perfect applicant might have a ‘blended’ experience of both private practice and in-house contracts experience within the energy or construction sectors.
