Reporting to the BRUSH Power Solutions (BPS) Senior SHE Manager, the SHE Manager will promote and uphold a positive health and safety culture throughout the Southern region, focusing on civils construction and M&E disciplines at site. The role will ensure employees, contractors and visitors remain safe, prevent harm and ill health, and help achieve SHE KPI targets.

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing and maintaining SHE standards across BPS projects.
  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation and BPS policies.
  • Supporting the BPS site project team.
  • Collaborating with the wider BRUSH Group SHE teams.
  • Driving continuous improvement.

Working conditions: 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday. Sites located across the South of England, with the role covering the South belt of the country.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the BPS site operational team ensuring compliance in all activities.
  • Provide specialist advice for all matters concerning statutory SHE requirements to the site operational team, managers, employees, and subcontractors.
  • Implement and maintain procedures to meet ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 requirements and ensure compliance across BPS and BRUSH Group.
  • Support capturing SHE Statistics and data reporting.
  • Collect data, populate KPIs, ensure targets are met and areas for concern are escalated.
  • Work alongside the quality team to ensure compliance with quality systems, including issuing and tracking corrective action requests.
  • Progress and close actions arising from internal or external SHE audits in a timely manner.
  • Ensure CDM 2015 compliance throughout the project.
  • Lead by example and promote a positive SHE culture, driving continuous improvement.
  • Develop and implement SHE policies and procedures to support the project.
  • Support HR to ensure legal compliance with health surveillance requirements.
  • Assist managers and supervisors in the development and maintenance of risk assessments, aiming to eliminate or reduce risk to the lowest reasonable practicable level.
  • Review RAMS from BPS and subcontractors and suggest changes as required.
  • Support project teams on writing and reviewing CDM documentation.
  • Assess training requirements and deliver SHE training, including toolbox talks.
  • Lead health and safety initiatives, including chairing meetings.
  • Review all submitted BPS Safety Improvement Opportunities (SIO) and develop subsequent control measures.
  • Assist with accident and incident investigations, provide reports and identify root causes, implement action plans, and share lessons learned.
  • Advise on specialist areas such as fire regulations, hazardous substances, work at height, noise, HAV and occupational diseases.
  • Monitor and control PPE compliance with required safety standards.
  • Ensure regulatory requirements such as COSHH, RIDDOR are met.
  • Report project statistics monthly to support client and BPS KPI reports.
  • Ensure data protection activities for personal and special category data are completed in line with BPS data protection policy.
  • Accountable for adequate data protection activities and awareness within Iver phase-2 in line with BPS policy.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Tech IOSH, or working towards.
  • Relevant experience in a sub-station, HV/LV environment – Essential.
  • NEBOSH General / Construction certificate – Essential.
  • NEBOSH Diploma – Desirable.
  • Lead Auditor – Desirable.
  • NEBOSH / ISEP Environmental Qualification – Desirable.
  • Accident and Investigation training – Desirable.
  • Permit to Work training – Desirable.
  • Temporary works training – Desirable.
  • SSEN CAT 1 / 3 Authorisations – Desirable.

Knowledge And Experience:

  • Experience with BS EN ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
  • Experience performing SHE audits and detailed site inspections.
  • Management of safety observations and subsequent assigning and close out of any assigned actions.
  • Substation and HV / LV experience as principal or main contractor.
  • Excellent understanding of current SHE laws and legislation.
  • Previous experience with a SHE management system.
  • Excellent verbal & written communication.
  • Competent English language skills.
  • Good understanding of fundamental Civil, Mechanical and Electrical principles.
  • Strong IT skills, proficient in all Microsoft Office programs.
  • Experience in accident / incident investigation, root cause analysis and report writing.
  • Proficient in compiling and delivering SHE reports and presentations.
  • Competent at developing task-specific RAMS and POWRA with operational teams.
