The Project Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for the financial integrity, profitability, and risk management of two construction contracts within the South & West region of the Power Solutions business. Acting as a key commercial interface between clients, project teams, and subcontractors, the PQS ensures projects are commercially viable and align with strategic business goals.
Role Details
The role will be hybrid working between our substation site in Iver, Buckinghamshire (typically 3 days per week, the other 2 days can be either from home or from our local HQ in Hook). You will initially support on our new National Grid Project. Core working hours are Monday - Friday, 40 contractual hours per week. Car allowance will be provided as part of the overall package.
Key Responsibilities
- Contractual Support
- Production of Contract Summaries Including
- Highlighting key contract clauses and their potential impact on the works
- Scheduling out the payment mechanism and timescales involved
- Provision of clear variation / claim notification requirements both in terms of format and timescale
- Detailing programme submission requirements and revision timescales
- Identification of any Liquidated Damages clauses applicable to the works
- Identification of any applicable rate review calculations and timescales
- Management of Variations & Claims to ensure current trading policy is adhered to
- Ensuring notifications to the Client are in accordance with the contract requirements
- Assisting PM’s in evaluating Variations & Claims prior to submission
- Assisting PM’s with follow up negotiations and formalised agreement of submitted Variations & Claims
- Ensuring substantial and final completion certificates are issued in accordance with the contract
- Monitoring of Defects Liability Periods
- Monitoring of monthly programme updates to assess Delays / Acceleration
- Ensuring contract programme submission requirements are adhered to
- Recalculation of Milestone schedule submission dates
- Applications / Invoicing
- On-going communication with PM’s to ensure applications / invoicing are carried out in accordance with the contractual formats, submission intervals and payment terms
- Ensuring the PM’s provide regular updates to Milestone Payment dates
- Submitting applications to the Clients Representative and confirmation of approval to invoice
- Communication with the Clients Representative to ensure approval of invoice and payment by the due date
- Supervision of the Setup process for new Subcontractors
- Formalising Subcontract Terms and Conditions
- Authorisation of Prices / Rates included within Subcontract Orders
- Authorisation of Subcontract payments
- Review of Purchase Agreement Terms and Conditions
- Providing feedback to Commercial Manager
- Provide support to Commercial Manager during the collation of monthly reconciliation reports
- Review of completed reconciliation sheets in advance of the proposed reconciliation meetings
- Provide monthly Cash / Debt / WIP report to Commercial Manager
- Commercial Representation at Progress or other commercially orientated meetings
What We’re Looking For
- Hold a degree/HND/Diploma level qualification in Quantity Surveying or Construction Management
- Extensive knowledge in both pre and post contract QS work
- Be fully conversant with the use of the standard method of measurement
- Demonstrable ability to deliver projects to tight timescales
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to lead from the front
- Self-motivation
- Working effectively at both a strategic and an operational level
- Well organised and a methodical approach to completing tasks and have an ability to prioritise
- Clean driving licence
