The predicted salary is between 48000 - 72000 £ per year.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, managing the Organisation & co-ordination of a dynamic design team to deliver projects to specification, on time & within budget. The team carries out a range of substation design work from 11kV to 132kV including Primary, Secondary & Protection & control. The role will be wide ranging with responsibilities including such things as resource planning, project control, liaison with project stakeholders & providing general engineering support to the team.

The role would suit somebody who is self-motivated & has a pro-active approach to problem solving with experience of project supervision within the power, engineering or construction environments.

Main Responsibilities
  • Assist the Engineering manager with the planning & control of the design team, including but not limited to the following:
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a small team of designers within the wider group, ensuring high performance and professional development.
  • Resource planning & programming.
  • Liaising between tendering, design engineers, other designers and managers.
  • Reviewing & monitoring of projects, both programme & financially. Providing reports to the engineering manager & project managers.
  • Liaising between the design engineers, other designers, equipment suppliers, project managers, & clients.
  • Attending project meetings via web-based systems or on-site.
  • Support design engineers with the management & co-ordination of design works, including submissions to clients.
  • Support the engineering team with the creation, implementation & monitoring of business processes.
  • Attending periodic team & client meetings.
  • Supporting site survey & inspection visits.
  • Liaising with & Managing land consents & surveying sub-contractors.
Person SpecificationQualifications
  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in power engineering or a related engineering field. A person with a lower qualification level, but who can demonstrate a high level of industry knowledge & experience would be considered.
Experience
  • Resource management & control.
  • Project supervision & commercial issues.
  • Business & quality management processes.
  • Knowledge of UK H&S standards, including CDM regulations.
  • Knowledge of Business & Quality Management Processes.
  • The following knowledge & experiences would be of an advantage:
  • Working in a design or construction-based environment.
  • National electricity Registration Scheme (NERS).
  • DNO G81 standards & working practices.
Skills
  • Experience in the use of project management software tools would be advantageous, but not essential. (e.g. Microsoft Project or Primavera P6).
  • Good written, verbal communication & interpersonal skills.
  • Good personal management, decision making & problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work within a team environment.
  • Good computer literacy, including use of Microsoft office (word, excel & email).
  • Full UK driving licence.
