What's the role?

As Business Development Manager at RYBKA you will identify, develop and secure new business opportunities, enhance existing business relationships, and work with senior management to influence growth strategy and coordinate business development activities across the company.

Working conditions

37.5 hours per week, Monday‑Friday. Hybrid working, typically 3 office days and 2 home working days. Ideal candidate must be flexible with regards to travelling to networking events, meeting clients and our Scotland office on an ad‑hoc basis.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development & Sales

  • Identify, target, and secure new business opportunities across target sectors by supporting senior management with relevant pipeline knowledge of new and existing clients.
  • Develop and maintain a pipeline of opportunities, tracking from lead through to award.
  • Monitor tender portals, frameworks, and procurement routes relevant to our services to identify short lists for bidding. Create knowledge share of key client target framework renewals.
  • Lead on bid/no‑bid decisions of the short list in conjunction with the wider team.
  • Support the preparation of pre‑qualification questionnaires (PQQs), expressions of interest (EOIs), and tender submissions.
  • Develop and implement business development strategies aligned with company growth objectives.
  • Own and manage best practice bidding material.

Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain relationships with clients, architects, project managers, and main contractors.
  • Act as a key point of contact for specific client accounts, identifying repeat business and cross‑selling opportunities.
  • Represent the company at industry events, seminars, networking functions, and trade exhibitions.
  • Gather market intelligence on competitors, client needs, and emerging opportunities, ensuring the business develops and maintains a contact database of all clients and industry contacts.
  • Organise with the marketing team on Rybka events such as office networking events and client networking events.

Support Marketing & Profile Raising

  • Work with technical staff and Group Marketing to develop case studies, project sheets, brochures, and other marketing collateral as required to support bids and increase brand awareness across operating sectors and regions.
  • Support the development of the company's brand presence (website, social media, awards submissions).
  • Identify speaking opportunities, sponsorships, and industry body involvement to raise the business profile.

Strategy & Reporting

  • Develop and implement business development strategies aligned with company growth objectives.
  • Report regularly to directors on pipeline status, win rates, forecasting and market trends.
  • Help define target sectors, key accounts, and geographic growth areas.
  • Gate keeper of key account management plans updated regularly by senior management.
  • Monitor and analyse market trends and competitor activities.
  • Manage the business development budget effectively with 12‑month forward planning and ongoing review of spend against budget on a monthly basis.

Team Collaboration

  • Engage proactively with BRUSH Group central services (e.g. Marketing, Legal, Commercial) to ensure the Rybka business is supported and new Clients and Opportunities controlled through defined business gateways.
  • Collaborate with Regional Directors (and Associates) to ensure alignment between business development activities and delivery capabilities.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven business development or sales experience within engineering consultancy, construction, or the built environment sector is essential.
  • Experience of the sales process including key account management.
  • Understanding of engineering consultancy services and delivery models.
  • Knowledge of public and private sector procurement processes.
  • Familiarity with construction and infrastructure markets.
  • Exceptional relationship building and networking abilities.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship‑building skills.
  • Proficient with CRM systems and Microsoft Office.
  • Self‑sufficient, resourceful and a problem‑solver.
  • An effective communicator, fluent in both spoken and written English.
  • Willingness to travel regularly (UK wide).

Desirable

  • Proven track record in developing and maintaining highly effective working relationships at all levels.
  • General understanding of engineering systems.
  • Existing network of contacts within architectural, contracting, or development firms.
  • Knowledge of relevant frameworks, procurement routes, and tender platforms.
  • Engineering, construction, or built environment qualification.
  • Experience of pricing consultancy services to both private and government sector organisations.
  • Knowledge of the sales process such as the Millier Heiman Blue Sheet & Gold Sheet.
