As a Building Physics Engineer at RYBKA, you will analyse and optimise building performance during all design stages, supporting the mechanical and electrical services design through advanced energy modelling to create sustainable solutions. Collaboration will be key to ensuring that projects fully meet the client’s requirements and that projects are delivered within budget and on programme.
Working Conditions
- 37.5 contractual hours per week, Monday - Friday between 9am-5.30pm on a hybrid working model typically consisting of 3 days in the office and 2 days working from home.
- The role can be based from our Edinburgh or Glasgow RYBKA offices.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist building physics lead with tasks as required for project delivery, to include:
- Using IES Virtual Environment Software for 3D model creation.
- Suncast (Solar Shading), Daylight & Sunlight analysis.
- Conceptual Energy Analysis.
- Operational in-use energy analysis (TM54).
- Building Reg Energy Compliance – Part L & Section 6.
- Thermal Comfort Analysis - TM52 & TM59.
- Future Climate Analysis.
- Airflow Ventilation Analysis.
- Breathing Buildings modelling.
- HVAC sizing through analysis.
- LZCT feasibility studies.
- Assist with the preparation of SAP Calculations as required.
- Work closely with clients and design teams to provide optimal building design solutions through iterative and parametric simulations.
- Help shape the development and integration of AI driven tools and data analytics to automate and enhance building simulation workflows.
- Develop a detailed brief of mechanical and electrical building services requirements in relation to sustainability and energy efficiency measures; produce documentation showing understanding of client needs.
- Conduct clear and detailed options appraisals and produce reports for the project team and Client, justifying recommendations to secure client sign-off.
- Work with colleagues to manage Rybka’s multidisciplinary offering and ensure internal programme delivery aspects are met.
- Develop effective working relationships with the wider design team to ensure the project delivers the client’s needs.
- Support on-site activity to monitor progress and quality and ensure successful completion of construction.
- Maintain up-to-date industry knowledge of guidance, regulations, and standards.
- Deliver projects on time within deadlines with clearly defined resources.

What We’re Looking For
- Graduate qualification in engineering and/or other relevant degree.
- An understanding of IES ApacheHVAC is essential.
- Experience with or enthusiasm for Python automation and AI tools to enhance building simulation workflows and data processing efficiency is essential.
- Experience of a range of construction projects.
- Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience of operating in an ISO9001 Quality Management System.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office packages, including Excel, Word and Outlook.
- Competence in report writing.
- Good presentation skills.
- Knowledge of building physics.
- Knowledge of renewable energy technologies and low carbon design.
- Knowledge of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering systems.
- Knowledge of embodied and whole life carbon.
- Appreciation and experience of the Technical Standards and relevant British Standards.
- Knowledge of planning legislative requirements.
