The Financial Controller ensures the provision of timely and accurate management information, adding value and strategic insight for the leadership team and shareholders. The Financial Controller also supports with FP&A activities, adding insight and value into the Finance function's daily tasks and operations. The Financial Controller ensures the smooth to day to day running of the Finance team including hiring, inducting, coaching, developing and motivating team members, delegating tasks with direction and support, and resolving or escalating any issues. Continuous process and system improvement ensures the efficiency and effectiveness of all Finance team activity. As a key member of Bruscos Senior Management team, the Financial Controller contributes to commercial and strategic business planning. Success in this role is measured by Key Success Measures including role modelling Company values. Key Success Measures Accurate and insightful month end management accounts are produced and issued for Brusco and Karimix within agreed timescales. Month end reporting is delivered by working day 8. The Finance team is highly engaged and high performing. Sales flash reports are prepared and shared with shareholders weekly. Monthly profit flash reports are prepared by working day 2. Brusco and Karimix 13-week cashflow is prepared and issued weekly. Audit requests are managed and final accounts ready for sign off within 2 months of year end. Monthly payrolls are managed accurately. Company values are consistently role modelled, with high levels of integrity, trust and collaboration. Key Responsibilities Prepare and deliver monthly management accounts for the Group and individual entities, including profit and loss, gross margin analysis and balance sheets, with detailed commentary and analysis. Conduct monthly reconciliations of transactions, with a focus on income and cost of goods sold (COGS). Reconcile and produce sales reports, collaborating with Sales and Finance teams to support performance tracking. Compile and submit Office for National Statistics (ONS) surveys. Calculate payroll figures and produce salary-related reports, supporting payroll and benefits processes to ensure timely and correct salary payments. Manage and file quarterly VAT returns across the Group. Prepare and post monthly journal entries in alignment with financial reporting standards. Review and analyse stock value costing, providing accurate inventory valuations that support effective inventory management and financial reporting. Prepare cash flow reports and provide support to cash management activities . Produce weekly cash flow forecasts for the Group , identifying trends to support financial planning. Perform daily system backups to safeguard financial data. Review and explain variances from forecasted figures across all gross margin and overhead categories. Reconcile nominal ledger balance sheet accounts monthly , to ensure high levels of accuracy and control. Contribute to ensure the Company is c ontinuously audit ready, s upporting audit activities, and leading year-end preparation for efficient audit processes. Support Group-wide forecasting and budgeting , ensuring resources are aligned with strategic priorities. Support and deputise for the Group Finance Director when required, guiding colleagues in business practices and processes. Support new starters with training, guidance and coaching. Undertake all appropriate training and skills development as necessary to be successful in your role, including keeping up to date with legislation and Financial best practice. Demonstrate high Health & Safety standards, recognising the critical importance of our food safety culture. Wear any PPE as required, reporting any loss or damage to a manager. Work in line with Bruscos policies and procedures. Demonstrate the Company values and behaviours. Any other duties as reasonably required to meet business needs. Jobholders Competencies, Skills and Experience Proven experience in a Financial Controller role. Professional accounting qualification either advanced PQ or ACA, ACCA, CIMA. Experience working in a fast-paced Finance role, including month end management. Awareness of accounting treatments, with experience of stock costing and reconciliations. Leadership and people management skills. Ability to identify trends, issues, and opportunities. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Analytic approach with high levels of accuracy and problem solving skills. Highly organised, working effectively at pace and meeting multiple deadlines. Excel proficiency and experience with accounting software (e.g. Sage, Quickbooks, Xero). Commercial acumen. Judgement about when to use initiative and when to consult.
