As a Director, you will lead the development and delivery of strategic communications plans and provide senior level advice to a broad range of clients. You will develop and land ideas for clients on how they can respond to the high-stakes societal issues relevant to their business. You will ensure the smooth running of client account teams, managing delivery and performance. You will develop strategies and approaches to cultivate new business targets and the expansion of existing client relationships. The Director is an integral leadership role in our global Sustainable Business practice and, working closely with Partners, you will contribute to the development and growth of the Sustainable Business practice in Brunswick.
In this role, you will work across a variety of industries, with international and UK-based companies. This includes the following responsibilities:
- Client leadership and advice: Lead internal teams on the delivery of mandates, from inception to research and analysis, through strategic development and recommendations, to activation of communication and stakeholder engagement plans; be âhandsâonâ with client work; play a leading role as a dayâtoâday point of contact for your clients. Stay close on quality and timelines. Produce highâquality, impactful clientâready materials and content that are effective at executive and board level, and help to land advice effectively. Design and activate integrated communications and campaigns, identify the opportunity for the client to act, shape the approach to sustainability and social value that align with the clientâs strategy and will stand up to external scrutiny. Deliver advice to clients at senior levels, helping them understand the societal challenges relevant to their business, how they can shape and deliver sustainable business outcomes and engage constructively with their stakeholders. Build and maintain trusted client relationships, deepening existing relationships and expanding our network of relationships with clients and potential clients. Provide insight on sustainability and ESG issues, including emerging and disruptive trends that are shaping business action and stakeholder expectations.
- Team leadership and collaboration: Ensure the smooth running of client teams, maintaining clear sight of the operational effectiveness of accounts, providing direction and project management; working closely with Partners on all aspects of managing performance from account finances to team roles to client deliverables. Develop colleagues below director level in the team, actively support their talent and growth, and equip them to progress. Engage and collaborate with colleagues across the firm at all levels to bring different areas of expertise to our client work and to contribute to mandates led by other practices/ sectors/geographies.
- Business development and practice growth: Pursue new business and prospecting, working with colleagues to source new leads, pitch to potential clients and secure extensions of existing client relationships. Foster innovation: find new opportunities to create impact for clients, develop new methods and tools, and help keep us at the vanguard of our field. Significantly contribute to the development and enhancement of the Sustainable Business practice, helping to build a worldâclass practice that delivers outstanding work.
What Weâre Looking For: Proven commitment to and passion for business action and impact on societal issues. 10+ years of relevant experience, preferably including as an advisor in a communications or consulting firm â or, alternatively, inâhouse, or as a stakeholder (eg: media, NGO). Credible and compelling with senior business leaders. Issue expertise in at least one of the areas that companies tackle, eg: energy transition, climate, nature, supply chains, human rights, DEI, circular economy, ESG governance. Track record in all areas of the role responsibilities, including developing and delivering communication and campaign ideas and plans, leading teams, driving new business and innovation. Experience of working on complex issues at the intersection of business, politics and regulation, finance and social stakeholders such as NGOs and civil society organisations. Understanding of corporate positioning, and inventiveness in conceiving and shaping campaign ideas and execution that can translate into programmes with real, sustained impact. Strong networks in business and on societal issues. A global perspective and experience with international businesses or organisations. Experience in media handling, with knowledge of how to engage with journalists, media and use social media channels to reach different target audiences would be beneficial. A consummate communicator, with strong verbal and written skills, an engaging presentation style and high EQ levels. Strong enthusiasm for learning and curiosity, creative problem solving, and capacity to balance creative and analytical thinking. A natural teamâworker who prefers to work in a collegiate way. Empathetic leadership, able to manage and mentor teams. Leading by example to work smarter, not harder, and deliver the highest quality to clients in all engagements. Ability to operate and thrive in a commercial, selfâstarting and fastâpaced environment â with a terrific sense of humour. A clear point of view about how it is possible for companies to drive progress in this space â and the ability to identify and get ideas lifted off that can make an impact.
