Brunel are looking to recruit an Environmental Advisor with 15+ years of HSE and Environmental operational experience gained within the onshore and offshore oil & gas industry. This 12 month renewable contract (3-4 year scope) is to work on a major development project. The position offers a smart working hybrid model, based in the London offices with flexibility to work from home two days a week.
Responsibilities:
- Ensuring all environmental and HSE aspects associated with the specific WPs are managed in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Supporting the delivery of specific HSE and Environmental strategies, policies, and procedures aligned with Company HSE Policies, UK Legislation, and ISO 14001 standards.
- Providing advice and guidance to ensure effective control and monitoring of activities that may affect health, safety, or the environment.
- Ensuring compliance with environmental laws, statutory legislation, and Company guidelines.
- Lead environmental audits, assurance reviews and inspections for contractors and sites.
- Develop and implement Environmental Management Plans.
- Monitor emissions, discharges, and waste management to ensure compliance with permits and consents.
- Support reporting of ESG metrics and sustainability commitments.
- Coordinate environmental impact assessments and mitigation measures.
- Ensure compliance with UK environmental regulations.
- Manage biodiversity and habitat protection measures for onshore/offshore activities.
- Proactively support the delivery of WP-specific Permit and Consent requirements.
- Review key HSE and environmental design documentation.
- Provide WP-specific stakeholder engagement support (HSEx, LPA, OPRED, NRW, Environment Agency).
- Ensure compliance with ISO 14001, 45001, and 50001 standards.
- Respond to Government consultations.
- Maintain performance monitoring tools for non-conformance and corrective actions.
- Support the development and implementation of HSE and Environmental plans.
- Network with peers to utilise Best Practices and Lessons Learned.
Requirements:
- Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering or Science (preferred)
- Suitable professional Health and Safety qualifications and/or experience, e.g., NEBOSH
- 15+ years of HSE and environmental operational experience onshore and offshore in high-hazard industries (Oil & Gas or CCS preferred)
- Significant knowledge of environmental management systems and UK environmental legislation
- Experience with the onshore DCO/TCPA processes and associated permitting requirements ideally gained from major onshore development projects
- Experience with ISO 14001 & ISO 50001 implementation and auditing
- Technical proficiency in environmental permitting and compliance
- Strong knowledge of risk management and environmental impact assessment
- Experience in coordinating a team ensuring timely delivery of all aspects of a project
- Knowledge of ETS requirements is considered desirable
