Applications are invited for a Research Assistant/Research Fellow to join the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Brunel University London and contribute to the PORTAL project, a Horizon Europe MSCA-Staff Exchange initiative focused on developing threat-agnostic resilience strategies for port–city ecosystems. The postholder will play a key role in supporting the research, coordination, and impact activities of the project. The role involves resilience modelling, infrastructure risk assessment, geospatial or systems analysis, and documentation of case studies, as well as supporting project management and partner coordination.

Working closely with the Project Coordinator and the international consortium, the postholder will contribute to high-quality research outputs, project delivery, and engagement with training, dissemination, and the project’s Community of Practice. The position includes opportunities for international research secondments to European partner institutions, during which the Fellow will receive an MSCA top-up allowance in line with Staff Exchange regulations.

Location and terms

  • Location: Brunel University London, Uxbridge Campus
  • Hours: Part-time at 24.5 hours per week (0.7 FTE)
  • Contract Type: Fixed-term for 24 months
  • Salary: See below for roles and salary progression - inclusive of London Weighting; pro-rata for part-time

Salary and progression

  • Research Assistant: from £36,640 to £38,638 inclusive of London Weighting with potential to progress to £39,682 per annum inclusive of London Weighting through sustained exceptional contribution. (Pro-rata for Part-time)
  • Research Fellow: from £40,757 to £44,179 inclusive of London Weighting with potential to progress to £47,921 per annum inclusive of London Weighting through sustained exceptional contribution. (Pro-rata for Part-time)
