A newly launched specialist MGA (founded by experienced market leaders across financial lines, construction and property) is making their first underwriting hire: a Surety Underwriter to establish and grow a UK retail surety proposition. This is a foundational appointment and will suit someone who wants genuine autonomy and the opportunity to help shape a platform from the ground up.
The focus:
- UK retail surety, regional brokers and SME contractors
- Service-led underwriting (speed of turnaround is critical in this space)
- Commercially driven approach - relationships and production capability are highly valued
The key question is: Can you underwrite Surety confidently, and can you develop business in the UK retail market? The firm is intentionally not London-centric and is fully supportive of remote working. Applicants based in regional hubs (Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham, Glasgow etc.) are strongly encouraged. If you are London based, office attendance is possible.
Capacity:
They have capacity live immediately with rated/fronting solutions in progress. If you’ve been part of a conglomerate or large carrier and recognise that things could be done better, if you’re someone who wants to be part of the beginnings of what hopes to be a market leader, not just on GWP/risks written but culture. Underwriting ethos is very important; this is about steady profitable growth, done the right way.
If you’re open to exploring this exciting opportunity, please do reach out for a discreet discussion. They are also open to technically strong surety brokers with credible relationships looking to move underwriting-side.
