We are partnered with a leading infrastructure origination platform who seek to lead transaction-level risk management for the firm’s European investment activities. Reporting directly to the Chief Risk Officer, the successful candidate will serve as a senior investment partner to the European origination and execution teams. The role focuses on ensuring that the fund continues to grow its European infrastructure lending platform through disciplined underwriting, thoughtful structuring and strong credit judgment. The individual will play a central role in evaluating and structuring new investments across infrastructure and project finance opportunities and will be a key participant in Investment Committee discussions.
Primary responsibilities:
- Transaction Underwriting & Investment Risk
- Lead credit and investment risk assessment for new infrastructure lending opportunities across the European platform.
- Work closely with origination and execution teams from the earliest stages of a transaction to evaluate credit risk, identify key structural issues and develop solutions that align transactions with the firm's risk appetite.
- Assess complex infrastructure and project finance transactions including corporate infrastructure lending, project finance and hybrid structures across multiple sectors.
- Identify key risk drivers including construction risk, merchant exposure, resource variability, counterparty concentration, regulatory frameworks and operating performance.
- Provide clear and independent credit opinions on transactions and communicate those views effectively to internal stakeholders and Investment Committee members.
- Review and provide recommendations on financing structures, covenant packages, pricing and collateral frameworks to ensure alignment with credit standards.
- Highlight key gating issues that determine whether a transaction can proceed and work collaboratively with deal teams to improve structures where appropriate.
- Participate in the structuring and negotiation of financing documentation in coordination with internal teams, external counsel and technical advisors.
- Investment Committee Engagement
- Prepare and present credit views and transaction risk assessments to internal Investment Committees.
- Develop a reputation as a credible and trusted voice within the IC process, capable of articulating complex credit issues clearly and concisely.
- Engage constructively in IC discussions, addressing challenges and providing well-supported recommendations regarding transaction approval.
- Portfolio Construction & Market Insight
- Contribute to portfolio construction through disciplined underwriting decisions and sector insights.
- Provide perspective on how proposed transactions affect portfolio exposures across dimensions such as sector, geography, sponsor concentration and risk profile.
- Identify emerging trends in European infrastructure markets and highlight implications for the firm's investment strategy.
- Work collaboratively with the Head of Portfolio Management and the CRO to ensure new investments align with broader portfolio objectives.
- Provide forward-looking views on macroeconomic developments, regulatory trends and sector-specific risks that could affect the European infrastructure lending portfolio.
