Senior Director, Head of Sustainability
Role Overview:

A leading global financial institution is seeking a Senior Director, Head of Sustainability & Regulatory Transformation to join its Sustainability Office. This hybrid role is based in London with a reporting line to the Chief Sustainability Officer in the USA .
Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a global team to define and implement enterprise sustainability strategies, with a focus on regulation, transformation initiatives, and responsible business practices.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to executive leadership, providing a comprehensive view of the firm\’s sustainability regulatory obligations and related initiatives.
  • Design and manage strategic, repeatable, and traceable processes for complying with a broad spectrum of global sustainability-related regulations.
  • Act as a senior subject matter expert (SME), collaborating with Risk, Compliance, and Legal teams to perform regulatory gap analyses, interpret evolving rules, and support implementation.
  • Provide strategic oversight of regulatory working groups and governance bodies; engage with senior leaders and executive committees.
  • Support regional teams in implementing sustainability regulations, particularly in relation to emerging UK disclosure standards .
  • Act as a liaison for ESG-related regulatory audits, investigations, and external stakeholder engagement (including regulators and investors).

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor\’s degree required; MBA or advanced degree in a relevant field is a plus.
  • 15+ years of professional experience, including at least 10 years in sustainability or ESG-related roles; background in financial services is preferred.
  • Deep expertise in EU and UK sustainability regulations , such as CSRD, CSDDD, EU Taxonomy, SDR, and TCFD, as well as global ESG reporting frameworks (e.g., GRI, ISSB).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex, matrixed environments and lead through change with agility and strategic foresight.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex topics for varied audiences.
  • Proven track record of influencing senior stakeholders, securing executive sponsorship, and building collaborative cross-functional relationships.
