As a Sessional Psychologist, you will provide specialist assessment, formulation and intervention for students experiencing complex psychological difficulties. You will also act as a clinical consultant to Student Life colleagues, contributing psychological expertise to support decision‑making, risk management and safeguarding processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake specialist psychological assessments for students with complex presentations
  • Develop psychological formulations to inform support planning and risk management
  • Deliver brief, evidence‑based psychological interventions where appropriate
  • Maintain clear, proportionate and confidential clinical records
  • Support the management of students presenting with significant mental health risk
  • Contribute to risk assessments, safety planning and safeguarding processes
  • Advise on appropriate escalation pathways and external referrals, including NHS services
  • Provide specialist consultation to Student Life staff and relevant academic colleagues
  • Support a trauma‑informed and psychologically informed approach across the College
  • Contribute to complex decision‑making in Fitness to Study, safeguarding and student support cases
  • Work closely with wellbeing advisors, counsellors, disability services and academic departments
  • Contribute to coordinated and holistic support plans for students
  • Promote effective multidisciplinary working across services
About You

You will have:

  • A Doctorate in Clinical Psychology or Counselling Psychology
  • Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • Experience working with complex mental health presentations
  • Experience of multidisciplinary or multi‑agency working
  • Excellent professional judgement and communication skills

Ideally, you will also have:

  • Experience working within higher education, education, or young adult services
  • Knowledge of current student mental health challenges and trends
  • Experience contributing to Fitness to Study, safeguarding or case review processes
  • An interest in supporting students within a creative and performing arts environment

Flexible Sessional Working Hours will be agreed according to service need and availability. Sessional work may include:

  • Student assessments and interventions
  • Case consultation
  • Attendance at multidisciplinary meetings
  • Brief clinical documentation
  • Any additional work, such as training delivery or extensive report writing, will be agreed separately in advance
