We’re looking for an enthusiastic, people person who is great at building relationships to join our dynamic Environment team, a group that sits at the heart of the Council and plays a crucial role in delivering essential frontline services. This role contributes to meaningful initiatives aimed at promoting positive behaviour change, driving increased recycling efforts and enhancing waste management practices. You will be helping to promote a cleaner more sustainable environment, as well as helping to make a real and long-lasting difference as part of our trailblazing Green Futures Programme, which supports our commitment to becoming carbon neutral by 2027.
We’re looking for an enthusiastic, confident, outgoing, people person to work with us to listen, communicate and engage with local residents, businesses, community organisations and other stakeholders to improve environmental awareness across the Borough. You’ll need great verbal and written communications skills and the ability to build relationships within the local community to encourage them to engage with the Council on a range of Environmental issues; the main focus of which will be waste and recycling.
As part of the role, you will also prepare materials to publicise and promote the borough’s waste and recycling services and other environmental topics, ensuring information is clear, accessible and engaging. This includes editing and updating the Council’s web pages to keep content accurate, relevant and up to date.
Working with other members of the Environment team, you will be playing a key role in contributing towards the development and implementation of environmental awareness and education programmes, including attendance at local events and the delivery of educational presentations in schools.
The ideal candidate must have:
- Ability to build positive working relationships with colleagues, members of the public and other relevant stakeholders
- Creativity and be willing to bring new ideas to the team.
- Excellent presentational and communication skills (both written and verbal)
- A passion for the Environment
- Proficient Microsoft office skills- Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
- Previous experience in a similar role is desirable but not essential.

What you need to know:
Working hours are 37 per week, (normal office hours being Monday to Friday, 8.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. (4.30 p.m. on Fridays), although start and finish times can be agreed with the line manager. You will be based at Kimberley depot, and your work will involve working across different locations in the borough. We offer a hybrid working arrangement, but you will need to spend a minimum of three days a week in the office. Working arrangements can be discussed with your line manager during the interview process. You will need access to your own vehicle.
