Responsibilities

  • Day‑to‑day management of the Council’s litigation service.
  • Handle a varied and often complex caseload, including housing possessions, anti‑social behaviour, debt recovery, commercial property litigation, fly‑tipping, licensing matters, planning enforcement and other related matters.
  • Represent the Council in County Court and Magistrate Court proceedings.
  • Deliver a responsive, trusted and customer‑focused in‑house legal service.
  • Manage complex workloads efficiently and support colleagues.
  • Build rapport with a wide variety of stakeholders, including members of the public.

Qualifications

  • Post‑qualification experience in litigation work.
  • Excellent knowledge of court proceedings and strong advocacy skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Strong organisational and time‑management skills.
  • Desirable: experience working within a local government environment.
  • Ability to converse at ease with members of the public and to provide advice in fluent English.
  • Disclosure and barring service check (working with children or vulnerable clients).
