The Council is looking for a creative, enthusiastic and dynamic individual to work within the Council's small, but busy, communications team. You will undertake a wide range of interesting duties including liaising with local and national media, writing press releases, maintaining the Council's website and supporting the Digital and Social Media Officer with content for the Council's social media channels. You will also be responsible for leading communications projects, creating and implementing targeted communications plans.
Responsibilities
- You will write articles and produce content for the media, social media (including basic videos), website and other communications channels, ensuring that it is factual, topical and concise.
- An element of the role will also include monitoring press and media activity, promptly drafting public and media responses, developing plans and approaches to continuously improve operations within the Communications team.
- You will also be on hand for any ad-hoc duties that may arise, supporting the Communications Manager.
- The role also includes occasional out-of-hours work, taking photos and representing the Council at various events.
Qualifications and skills
- You must be educated to degree level and have one to two years' work experience within a communications or public relations environment.
- You must have a passion for communications to help us engage effectively with residents, businesses, staff and other stakeholders.
- Good standard of written English and a meticulous eye for detail.
- Experience with proofing written content and graphic design work in accordance to corporate style guidelines.
- Experience of using website content management systems (CMS).
- IT literate in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Confident in delivering ideas to the rest of the team.
- Ability to confidently engage with senior Officers.
- A full drivers' licence is essential.
- The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in fluent English is essential in this post.
