A busy and progressive local authority in Hertfordshire is seeking an Assistant Planning Officer to join their Development Management service. Located close to Greater London, the authority faces a number of development pressures. The postholder would carry their own caseload of smaller planning applications and would have the opportunity of providing assistance to colleagues on more complex development proposals. The postholder will play their part in delivering sustainable development, whilst maintaining Broxbourne as an attractive place to live, work and visit.
If you have an interest in planning, planning experience or ideally a working knowledge of the development management process, along with a positive attitude and a wish to seek and deliver solutions then we would like to hear from you. This position could also suit candidates who have recently left education with a particular interest in sustainable development, planning or the environment and who wish to gain experience in this sector.
You should be organised, enthusiastic, committed and motivated. You must be able to work efficiently under your own initiative and effectively in partnership with planning colleagues, developers, agents, elected Members and other stakeholders in order to support the Development Management service. You will be confident using common IT applications such as Microsoft Office and you will pay attention to detail.
The ability to analyse development proposals, negotiate and communicate both verbally and in writing are essential requirements of the post. You should be able to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in fluent English. A current full driving licence and the ability to undertake site visits and inspections are a requirement of the post.
