We're supporting an established civil engineering contractor looking for an experienced and commercially aware Estimator to join their team. You’ll play a key role in the pre-construction phase, producing accurate and competitive estimates from drawings and specifications across a range of civil engineering projects, particularly within local authority frameworks.
What you'll be doing day to day:
- Preparing detailed cost estimates from drawings and specifications
- Reviewing tender documents and identifying key risks and opportunities
- Liaising with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotations
- Collaborating with internal teams to ensure accurate and commercially viable submissions
- Supporting bid submissions and contributing to tender strategy
- Working closely with senior management to align estimates with business objectives
- Managing multiple tenders and deadlines effectively
What they are looking for:
- 5–7 years’ experience within a civil engineering or construction estimating role
- (HNC/HND/Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or similar)
- The ability to price from first principles
- Proven experience working from drawings and specifications at tender stage
- Experience within local authority projects (highways, drainage, bridges, etc.)
- Ability to hit the ground running and work with minimal supervision
- Strong attention to detail and commercial awareness
- A collaborative mindset and willingness to support and mentor others
