About the Role
We are seeking a Geo-Environmental Consultant to join our team in Bromsgrove, with opportunities for rapid professional development and promotion for the right candidate. We're looking for someone with approximately 1-3+ years relevant experience who is a team player with drive, ambition and commitment to producing quality work. You'll work as part of an experienced team delivering geo-environmental and geotechnical consultancy services to a diverse range of clients, with a good balance of site and office working.
Key Responsibilities
- Be familiar with relevant standards, guidance and legislative background to the geo-environmental and geotechnical industry
- Supervise ground investigations involving various techniques, manage subcontractors, log and sample soil and rock to BS5930
- Monitor gas and groundwater, undertake in-situ tests, and conduct validation visits
- Schedule chemical and geotechnical laboratory testing and produce exploratory hole logs using OpenGround or similar
- Produce calculations from templates and drawings (including in CAD)
- Write Phase I desk study reports and Coal Mining Risk Assessments (CMRAs)
- Prepare health and safety documentation and implement safety standards on site
- Write interpretive reports including Phase II geo-environmental assessments, risk assessments, and geotechnical assessments
- Input, screen, analyse and interpret site data, presenting clear logical arguments
- Communicate effectively with colleagues, clients and suppliers
- Prepare proposals for new work and check/approve subcontractor invoices
- Comply with internal policies, procedures and ISO standards
Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise
Essential Requirements
- Approximately 1-3+ years relevant experience
- Undergraduate degree (2:1 or above) in relevant subject (geology, environmental science, geotechnical engineering, civil engineering, physical geography etc.)
- Full UK driving licence (manual transmission)
- Good IT skills and competent with MS Office
- Strong work ethic, able to work effectively alone or as part of a team
- Good problem solving skills with ability to adapt and find practical solutions
Desirable
- Good working knowledge of AutoCAD and OpenGround
- Knowledge of remediation strategies and techniques
- Experience with verification of remediation works and preparation of verification reports
- Familiarity with earthworks, materials/waste management, and MMPs under CL:AIRE DoWCoP
- Soil mechanics knowledge and foundation bearing capacity calculations
- Experience liaising with regulators
Salary and Benefits
- Optional 2FF working pattern, working slightly extended hours across the fortnight and you take every second Friday off. This gives you around 26 extra days away from work each year on top of standard annual leave allowance. You still receive your full salary, while gaining regular time back for family, hobbies, travel or simply switching off
- Hybrid work approach, typically 3-4 days in the office or on site per week when on 2FF, but flexible
- 22 days annual leave plus bank holidays (increasing with service and promotions)
