About the Role
We are seeking a Geo-Environmental Consultant to join our team in Northwich, offering opportunities for rapid professional development and promotion. The role requires approximately 1-3+ years of relevant experience, strong teamwork, drive, ambition, and commitment to producing quality work. The consultant will work as part of a team delivering geo-environmental and geotechnical consultancy services to a diverse range of clients, balancing site and office work.
Key Responsibilities
- Be familiar with relevant standards, guidance and legislative background to the geo-environmental and geotechnical industry
- Supervise ground investigations involving various techniques, manage subcontractors, log and sample soil and rock to BS5930
- Monitor gas and groundwater, undertake in-situ tests, and conduct validation visits
- Schedule chemical and geotechnical laboratory testing and produce exploratory hole logs using OpenGround or similar
- Produce calculations from templates and drawings (including in CAD)
- Write Phase I desk study reports and Coal Mining Risk Assessments (CMRAs)
- Prepare health and safety documentation and implement safety standards on site
- Write interpretive reports including Phase II geo-environmental assessments, risk assessments, and geotechnical assessments
- Input, screen, analyse and interpret site data, presenting clear logical arguments
- Communicate effectively with colleagues, clients and suppliers
- Prepare proposals for new work and check/approve subcontractor invoices
- Comply with internal policies, procedures and ISO standards
Essential Requirements
- Approximately 1-3+ years relevant experience
- Undergraduate degree (2:1 or above) in relevant subject (geology, environmental science, geotechnical engineering, civil engineering, physical geography, etc.)
- Full UK driving licence (manual transmission)
- Good IT skills and competent with MS Office
- Strong work ethic, able to work effectively alone or as part of a team
- Good problem solving skills with ability to adapt and find practical solutions
Desirable
- Good working knowledge of AutoCAD and OpenGround
- Knowledge of remediation strategies and techniques
- Experience with verification of remediation works and preparation of verification reports
- Familiarity with earthworks, materials/waste management, and MMPs under CL:AIRE DoWCoP
- Soil mechanics knowledge and foundation bearing capacity calculations
- Experience liaising with regulators
