Overview: We are currently looking for a Broking Manager to join our professional and welcoming team based out of the Birmingham (or Leicester) office. It is our depth of insurance experience that enables the provision of independent advice and specialist expertise in various trade sectors. The objective is to provide unbiased and informed choices, fantastic customer service and market buying power that delivers the right insurance protection.

The purpose of this role is to be an integral part of the team, managing the negotiation and placement of a range of insurance classes, whilst providing excellent service to clients, markets and the wider Berkeley team. This is a good long‑term opportunity that will suit an experienced executive with good cross‑class commercial insurance knowledge who is looking for the next step or to take on wider responsibilities.

The day to day:

  • Undertake broking activity on allocated cases, ensuring company procedures and placement strategy followed at all times.
  • Maintain relationships with insurers at trading level.
  • Joint responsibility for marketing of new business enquiries and defence strategy for cases under attack.
  • Attend client meetings where required to obtain relevant information to enable quotations to be obtained.
  • Prepare market presentations and negotiate best possible deal available from market.
  • Attend follow‑up visits with clients or prospects where required by the Account Executive.
  • Make recommendations for insurance based on information gathered from prospect.
  • Broke/place existing cases where agreed, including producing presentations, negotiating best deals with insurers and preparing renewal reports.
  • Act as focal point for market information and provide assistance where required in placing business.
  • Recommend improvements to insurance programme and highlight any gaps in cover, ensuring that quotations are obtained for any new policies.
  • Deal with any other client issues that may arise, referring to the appropriate person when the enquiry falls outside your own knowledge and experience.
  • Be aware of market conditions and the strengths and weaknesses of competitors and make recommendations for changes where appropriate.
  • Carry out all duties and processes in accordance with the Rules of the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and any other applicable Codes of Practice.

  • A thorough knowledge of UK commercial insurance market practice and technical matters.

  • Minimum of Cert CII.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills.
  • Behaviour that inspires the trust and respect of teammates and key stakeholders.
