Working options: Office-based with optional rotational remote working in line with divisional requirements.

Working hours: 37.5 (Monday-Friday) hours per week.

Role Overview

We are looking for someone with experience of working in a claims environment to join our Property Claims team as a Claims Handler. You’ll need excellent attention to detail and be able to plan, organise and meet set deadlines, as you’ll be entering data onto client records and ensuring that they’re completed within service standards. We need people who are passionate about delivering excellent customer service as you’ll be monitoring claims and keeping customers and other relevant parties informed of the progress of claims. You’ll be preparing written responses to enquiries and being the first point of contact to provide advice and guidance, so excellent communication skills are a must. You’ll be working closely with your team and communicating with people internally and externally, so you’ll need to be an effective team player and able to build effective working relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately record and analyse information to validate and proceed with the claim.
  • Negotiate, settle and/or repudiate claims within delegated limits of authority and refer all claims above delegated authority to underwriters with recommendations.
  • Act in accordance with the agreed procedures and protocols under Delegated Authority Schemes.
  • Monitor claim progression, ensuring customers and relevant internal/external parties are kept informed of updates and any issues that may arise.
  • Process and maintain client/departmental emails.
  • Maintain diary systems by written and oral communications.
  • Serve calls where required, maintaining professional relationships with loss adjusters, insurers and other relevant legal and claims professionals.
  • Answer, resolve and/or transfer inbound phone calls when required.

Requirements

  • An excellent level of written and spoken English and mathematical skills.
  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office packages and the ability to learn new systems and processes as required.
  • Drive and self-determination with the ability to identify problems and implement solutions.
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility and adaptability.
  • Experience in the property sector, especially the private rented sector, will be useful but not essential, as will a basic understanding of the insurance or financial services industry.
